2010 Health Classes for Maasai Women

The first quarter of 2010 started off strong for Kitumusote with health classes taught by health expert and British volunteer , Helen Norton. Maasai women were taught how to recognize the first signs of illnesses such as malaria infection, pneunmonia, diarrhea and fever. They were given information on the best way to organically treat the early symptoms of each illness and how to know when someone required more serious medical attention.

2009: The Year of The Drought

Tanzania faced a terrible drought this past year. The expected rains did not come in April and May. This caused a drastic drought that affected many people through out Tanzania including the Maasai. These fragile communities depend on the rain for their crops, trees, livestock, and most importantly for their drinking water.  Kitumusote faced many setbacks caused by this unforeseen natural catastrophe. Watering holes dried up and livestock suffered. Crops died and people were faced with unrelenting hunger.  Many people had to seek government help.
